Just saw the following headline and had to share it. From Anandtech: Intel to cut Celeron D processor prices 5.4-13.5%, AMD to follow suit

Intel Celeron D prices will be on the chopping block later in July with AMD not to far behind with price cutgs of their own:

Heh, their prices will be “on the chopping block” – just like the entire Intel Corporation.

I would rather a company NOT post an address for customer service on their website if this is the kind of response I will get to an inquiry:

Please give me a call so that we can discuss the problem you inquired
about. Thanks

I gave you my number – why don’t YOU call ME back?

It’s been a long time coming, but Anandtech is reporting this morning that AMD has filed antitrust charges against Intel in U.S. Federal District Court. It will definitely be interesting to see how this goes as it does seem they have a valid complaint. I may be biased though, as I don’t recall ever purchasing an Intel chip. They have quite a list of reasons for the chargest in their 48-page report but I picked this out of the notes as my favorite:

Threatening retaliation against customers for introducing AMD computer platforms, particularly in strategic market segments such as commercial desktop;

  • Then-Compaq CEO Michael Capellas said in 2000 that because of the volume of business given to AMD, Intel withheld delivery of critical server chips. Saying “he had a gun to his head,” he told AMD he had to stop buying.
  • According to Gateway executives, their company has paid a high price for even its limited AMD dealings. They claim that Intel has “beaten them into ‘guacamole'” in retaliation.

Hector Ruiz, AMD chairman of the board, president and CEO stated in the official AMD Press Release that “Everywhere in the world, customers deserve freedom of choice and the benefits of innovation – and these are being stolen away in the microprocessor market.”

I do hope this goes well for AMD and that they don’t end up wasting tons of cash (that they don’t have) on a case that goes no where.

I just find it quite funny that pretty much everytime I run across pictures online of Matt Mullenweg, lead developer of WordPress, he’s wearing a Blogger t-shirt. My latest spotting was in some of the pics on Flickr from Gnomedex 2005. Maybe I can find a way to weasel my way to Gnomedex 2006. 🙂

Do any of you use MSN as your primary search engine? The MSNbot that crawls my site is pretty much just stealing bandwidth, so I’m about to ban that bot from crawling here. For comparison purposes, allow me to present you with a few statistics from the month of June 2005.

    Exhibit A – MSNbot

  • Crawl hits = 9561
  • Bandwidth used = 124.43 MB
  • Visits to wantmoore.com as a results from searches @ Google = 683*
    Exhibit B – Googlebot

  • Crawl hits = 3415
  • Bandwidth used = 51.74 MB
  • Visits to wantmoore.com as a results from searches @ MSN = 41

The cost/benefit just isn’t enough for me. Not that I’m starving for bandwidth, and not because it’s causing performance issues (a href=”http://mindstormhosting.com”>Go Mindstorm Hosting!), but it just annoys me. And since it’s my site, I can do what I want right?

So, effective immediately:

User-agent: MSNBot
Disallow: /

If you notice any errors anywhere or your access gets blocked for some reason (I’m blocking some other bots and things as well), please email me and let me know.

* Includes both standard web searches as well as Google Images searches.

Looks like there is going to be equipment swapping in order for me to get the new phone from Verizon after all. Apparently, the account did NOT become eligible for the “new every two” on 6/23 as was previously stated from a Verizon Customer Service Rep. Now they’re saying when I upgraded Bonnie’s phone back at Christmas, that started the two-year counter all over again, even though I paid full price for the phone I got her and didn’t take any promotional discounts. I’ve always been pleased with Verizon’s coverage and NOT IMPRESSED with their customer service – this just adds. I’m quite irate and if I was a rich man, I’d definitely drop the $350. buy out of my contract, and switch to some other company, even if their coverage isn’t spectacular just because I’m so miffed at VZW. I’ve been a customer for more than FIVE YEARS and this is the kind of crap they continually dish out. Does anyone have ANY contacts at Verizon that would actually care to LISTEN to a REAL CUSTOMER?

Note: I’d appreciate any of you that would to link this on your site and maybe I can get someone’s attention…
