*Disclaimer: The following post is highly commercialized and over-linked. However, I feel led to “spread the gospel” of WordPress and Jim and his services from Mindstorm. That being said, please read it anyway!*

Craig, aka NuclearMoose over in the WordPress Forums was informed today that his blog was shut down due to the fact that a “PHP blogger script that has run amok and taken over the server resources to the point where the server had to be rebooted.” His host, dotCanada, which I will not link to for obvious reasons is obviously insane. While PHP/mySQL queries probably do spike a server’s resources occasionally, it is not that heavy of a load. WordPress rocks people. Go read the whole story here if you’re interested.

There’s not better time than now either to get your own blog. No, seriously! If you have any remote interest whatsoever, let me know. I can give you a subdomain at my wantmoore.com or .net domain if you’re interested or for about $10 you can register your own domain and then we can work something else out. If there are enough takers, I’ll get another great hosting package from Jim to take care of it all for everyone at a nominal fee. Mindstorm hosting is simply great. I couldn’t be happier.

But anyway, the whole point to this was to point out that dotCanada’s services are pointless. Period. Get a real host Craig, and everyone else too! And by the way, WordPress rocks. My thanks go out to the development team:

I don’t want to give anything away, but I had a rather lengthy conversation (especially when compared to conversations of late) with Brandon this morning and let me just say this. Things are changing, for the better.

getoffthecomputer.com is alive and well. More tutorials, more often. We’re renewing our commitements to our readers, will you commit to be one of them? Check us out, we have something for everyone!

This is in reply to a comment from a previous post regarding my feelings for our wonderful President.

*Sigh* Moderating comments to “approve” is hard when I disagree, but I have to be fair I suppose. I do have a hard time seeing how Bush can be blamed for all the executions though. Just because he didn’t grant a pardon?? Crime -> Caught -> Convicted -> Sentenced -> Appeal (Denied) -> Appeal (also Denied) -> Pardon Request (Denied) -> Dead.

I just can’t comprehend how it’s the governor’s fault that someone was sentenced to the death penalty. How is it Bush’s fault that MORE people commited MORE crimes during his time in office and that MORE juries found them guilty of their crimes. In the timeline above, look how many people that sentence was passed through before reaching the desk of George W. Bush. So, if you disagree with the death penalty, don’t blame the governor of all people for cryin’ out loud. He wasn’t involved in the trial or the sentencing for Pete’s sake.

I’m a believer in capital punishment, but above that, I support the leader of my country. Period. And may God Bless America

I was doing a bit of research to make an informed reply to a question over at the Lockergnome Linux forums and came across something very interesting. SuSE 9.1 is set to be released on May 8th, so downloads may be available before then. While skimming the details of this release, I saw this:

New Software/Additional Software:
* Rekall – Graphical database application, comparable to MS Access.

That my friends, is fantastic stuff. I’m no Linux fanatic, but I’ve YET to see or hear of ANY piece of Linux software comparable to MS Access. Sure, there is SQL, but no pretty front end for it, which is what Access is.

Other major highlights for the 9.1 distro release is of course the first commercial release of a distro with the 2.6.4 kernel. Also included is KDE 3.2, Gnome 2.4, Samba 3, and numerous new versions of our old favorites such as Kopete, Juk, and Kontact.

Cheers to Novell and SuSE for this release. I can’t wait to purchase a copy.

I feel moved to post an accompanying post to what Brandon just wrote on his blog about all the finger pointing thats taking place within our country right now. Seriously people, you are all making it sound as if our administrations (past and current) *wanted* something bad to happen to us. As much of a dirty scoundrel as Clinton was, he wouldn’t let this sort of thing happen. And how in the world could someone say that W. knew something was going to happen but did nothing to prevent it. Everything that he was given was historical information about things that had been happening, not that there was an imminent threat on our country. Seriously folks, Bush is from Texas and you have to think he is a little trigger happy eh? So think about it before you blame 9/11 on him. Now, don’t you think if he would’ve known something that he would’ve taken care of it?

“Helen, this is your sister Louise…. I am calling you…. Call me back hun. Bye now.”

This is the message waiting on my answering machine when I got in from work. I’ve never gotten around to actually recording an outgoing message on it, and this is one reason that I don’t know if I ever will. I mean, come on, Louise. You don’t even know your own sister’s phone number?! Give me a break! What’s even funnier is that I swear I’ve gotten a message from Louise in the past as well that said something about “It’s X O’Clock and you’re not here yet, just wondering where you are,” but that could’ve been some other old lady. Ahh…. Great great stuff. Maybe I should try and capture the message and store it on here for future laughs.

I might be asking to have my bandwidth killed for the month, but if you haven’t seen the ToysRUs Easter Sale Commercial, you gotta watch this.

If you have trouble getting it to play in your browser, you can click here for the direct link and open the file in a media player of your choice.
