I managed to find the video clip of the new Burger King Bacon Cheddar Ranch commercial. Seeing as how my site is already at about 80% of it’s bandwidth thanks to a video I posted earlier this month, I’m not hosting it here. But I chased a link in a comment left by BrixenIvy and was able to get a direct-link to the WMV. The link should work in all browsers and players that support the WMV video format. Well, without further adieu, here it is:
Burger King Bacon Cheddar Ranch Commercial (with Darius Rucker aka “Hootie”

I seem to have attracted quite a bit of attention with my Hootie post from a few days ago. If you run through Google and search for hootie commercial or hootie burger king commercial, you’ll see my post listed right there near the top. The post has attracted quite a few comments, so head on back to it if you think you might have something to add.

Upgraded both this and Bonnie’s blog to 1.5 Strayhorn just now. Was pretty quick and painless. The main thing that threw me was something new in the default index.php file related to using themes. But, all fixed now. I even got geeky and wrote myself a nice little shell script to backup current installation, copy the WP core from a “clean” install directory to a temp install directory, then copy the wp-content directory and the wp-config file from the CURRENT install to the temp directory, and then rename to get the new code in place. If I wanted to surrender full control to the little script, I could even have it execute the wp-admin/upgrade script, but that seemed a little silly. If anyone wants to automate upgrades, I’ll send you the script. [Must have shell access to your *nix box]

One of my favorite commercials lately is the one with MC Hammer rapping in front of the mansion and then something like “10 minutes later” his pimpin’ ride is being repossesed and his possy is gone. Well, just when I’m enjoying this has-been artist making fun of himself, along comes someone who isn’t a has-been and completely embarasses himself in a commercial. I’m talking about Darius Rucker, more well known as “Hootie” of Hootie and the Blowfish and this new Burger King “Bacon Cheddar Ranch” commercial with this insanely annoying little jingle. Hootie has still been touring and doing OK for themselves even though they haven’t been mainstream in some time. I’m afraid I just lost a TON of respect for the man though… that commercial looks so cheap and Hootie looks like a dork.

UPDATE: If you’re looking for somewhere to watch the video, check out this post with some info on it.

I somehow managed to let the my two year anniversary of blogging fly right by without even mentioning it. This was the post that started it all back on February 12, 2003. I actually had a website up and running before then, but that’s when I discovered b2/cafelog 0.7x and started using it. Even back then, installation was a snap – but Matt and the WordPress guys made it even better with the “5 minute install” routine. Anyway…

It’s been a really great two years if you ask me. From my dashboard on WP 1.5 I bring you the following stats:

  • Categories: 23

That’s slightly above an average of 2 comments per post, so thanks to each of you who have participated in the discussions at wantmoore.com. My categories are actually getting out of hand I think. I need to be more general and also weed out some of the old stuff or ones that I never use.

Here’s to the next year!

I meant to post this earlier, but if anyone wants to run a history report on a car, I bought a two month subscription to autocheck.com and I’ll be happy to run one for you. Just leave me a comment letting me know or email me using the contact form, and I’ll get back in touch with you to get the VIN#.

Time Warner Commercial Services: Hire more sales associates. I should NOT have to be on hold for one minute, let alone 5 when I want to place an order.

Note: Having to retype this because I forgot to move my cursor away from my bookmarklet again…

In the past 24 hours, the spammers have defeated the plugin that I’ve been using. This really makes me sad, because I’ve loved the passive approach that the Spam Service plugin from Mark had. You see, it uses a centralized server that he maintains to decide what is and isn’t spam. I’m afraid this is losing steam though, because aside from the URL and Name fields, most of the rest of the comment could seem fairly legitimate, just WAY off topic from the post is all.

Well, later this morning I’ll be upgrading both mine and Bonnie’s blogs to the 1.5 Strayhorn code, and then it’ll be off to the races to decide on a new spam protection plugin. At the moment I’m thinking either OSA or Spam Karma, so if anyone cares to encourage me either direction or suggest a new one, I’m all open at the moment.
