Yes, justinandbonnie.com is currently down. Sorry, but there were some unforseen DNS issues which occured with the upgrade to the new server. Everything should be sorted and operational by end of the weekend.

In related news, I need some downtime of my own, in more ways than one. I’m physically exhausted. Working more hours than usual, staying up WAAAAY too late at night with my new #wordpress buddies chatting and testing the WordPress 1.2 alpha and beta releases. (My old LiveJournal will soon be imported into this blog!) I’ve had to start doing the yard work around the house since it’s that time of year AND I still need to finish painting the outside of my house.

On a closer to home digital level, I’m ripping apart my home network this weekend and rearraning machines. I’m switching my current file-server over to SuSE 9 Professional and aiming to make it my primary desktop machine. My current primary machine will get a nice clean install of WinXP and assume a role as mainly a “Gaming” system. What is basically boils down to is that I have anywhere between 5 -10 gigabytes of music, documents, pictures, and God-only-knows-whatelse that has to be shuffled from one machine to another and back this weekend. So, I’ll be kicking back this weekend in my new leather “manager’s chair” that I picked up last weekend and watching the file copy box for a few hours at a time. I’ll keep a check on email on the Z, so hit me up with the contact form if you wanna keep me company.

I just found the solution to all of my future financial difficulties. Ladies and gentlemen, Google is going public. Now if someone will just find a way for me to be able to get my hands on some shares, please let me know!

I’m tired. I’ve almost given myself insomnia. For the longest time I was doing well at forcing myself to bed before midnight. Now, it’s around 1am and I’m not sleepy. I’ve become fairly vocal in #wordpress on IRC and somewhat of a regular there I guess, to which I partially attribute my late nights. Although, I’d say its paying off. I am about to become involved in a FAQ project that is shaping up to be quite neat. Glad to finally be giving something back to the WP community.

I want a laptop. I’ve had a VERY strong urge lately to kick WinXP off my desktop and commit myself to SuSE for good. I haven’t really gamed in quite a while, and the last time I did it wasn’t anything serious. If I had a laptop, I’d install Win on it and use it whenever I had a task that required it. If I can ever afford more RAM, my current fileserver would make a pretty decent Linux box I think. As soon as I get several spare hours to swap hardware around, I might give it a try. One way or the other, by years end, I make the pledge to convert.

I’ve had a rather busy couple of weeks and have had more than one person comment on me posting lots of uber-geek stuff, so I’ll try to get back to being more personal this week. I’ve worked a ton of hours compared to my normal schedule at SW and then had quite a bit of computer business to handle on the side as well, so please forgive me.

Stacey’s senior prom was Saturday night. I’m getting so old. I took pictures of her and her friends and I’ll try to get them posted this week as well as some that have been collecting dust on my hard drive for a while. I’ll tell you now though that she was beautiful. 🙂

Got an email from Jim earlier that said we were getting a new server. 🙂 More power! I’m sure this will make Eric and Matty happy too.

Jim says he’s not expecting any downtime, but you just never know with computers.

After the whole WordPress saga with Craig’s blog, I decided it was time to send Jim a formal ‘thank you’ for his great hosting. While running through my list of daily blog reads, imagine my surprise to find this post on his personal blog.

He really does go above and beyond the call of duty. Several weeks ago I send him an instant message on MSN about an email server issue I was having and before he helped me out, he congratulated me on my engagement. He makes time to keep tabs on ALL of his customers. That’s just the thing that makes it worth my money. And according to him, that’s just the reason he does what he does. And the circle of our business relationship continues as such.

So again, thanks to Jim and Mindstorm Hosting.

If at first you don’t succeed, keep trying right? Something apparently went “amok” with the SuSE 9 install last night because it couldn’t find the kernel image when the machine rebooted. All attempts to boot into any failsafe mode, well, failed. Brandon tried to help, but it really screwed up.

So now I’ve pulled out my trusty 8.2 discs and the install is running now. Hopefully the wonderful chai I had earlier will keep me awake long enough to finish it and see if things are operational. Then tomorrow, I can hound the heck out of Brandon to help me make sure everything is configured well enough.

I’m about to pass out, but this first…

I’ve decided to become a bit more technically active. Write more for GOTC, become more active in the WordPress and LG forums, and actively participate in WordPress documentation if theres anything they need help with. I sat and idled in the WP IRC chat tonight and talked with the infamous NuclearMoose and assisted him in backing up his SQL Db.

Of course I also have my MCSE book that I’m still trying to read through and learn a thing or two. My goal is to have this one XP certification before my wedding….
