Had to clean up on the entrance page code a bit tonight, but I finally got it validated. Cleaning up the header and menu code was the worst part. Apparently there was a conflict between the two that didn’t surface when working on the blog page because the blog template doesn’t use the header file, only the menu. So, the rest of the validating should go pretty smoothly and I hope to get everything but the /pics done tomorrow. I’m concerend about the pics though because if I’ve got my facts straight, the XHTML spec doesn’t allow the ‘target=’ attribute on a link, so I’ve gotta figure out how to work around that. Any suggestions??

I’m about half done with the blog page becoming valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional. About 80% or so of my errors were due to image tags not having the ‘alt’ attribute. That’s solved and now I’m moving on the the final details. It’s coming a lot easier than I thought so I might even attempt to validate it as Strict XHTML. We’ll see how things go….

EDIT: 11:15pm
Validation Complete!

EDIT: 11:27pm
CSS is valid CSS2 also!

Ahem, in my best radio voice…. “Goooood afternoon blog readers. We’ve got a beatiful afternoon here in Shelby for ya. It’s beautiful blue skies and 77 degrees outside. You’re reading “the life of justin” so now back to your regularly scheduled programming.”

Man, it really is awesome outside today. Quite warm inside the house though. Had a good visit with my future brother/sister-in-law Friday night/Saturday and got back home late last night. Bonnie and her sister were pretty productive in some decorations for the wedding.

We’re going out tonight to eat with the crew from S-W. We met some sales goals second half of 2003 and for our good service we were awarded $300 for a group outing for ourselves and significant others. Should be a good night for eating!

I just found a very NewsGator’ish extension for Mozilla Thunderbird called Forumzilla. Not very customizable nor user friendly, but its open source, free, and very alpha stage. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Brandon spoke of a problem on his blog. Seems he is an idiot and executed a virus file that he stumbled across while checking out some freeware programs for review on GOTC. The virus is Trojan.Prorat (though also known as Backdoor-AVF) in case you were wondering. Well anyway, he could boot to WinXP, but then couldn’t run NortonAV. Safe Mode wouldn’t work and booting from the XP install CD didn’t work either. Hmm, so short of wiping out his disks and reinstalling Windows (which he just did last week), what’s a guy to do?

Well first, you shove your fist through a wall, door, or maybe both. Then, ask your friend what to do and wait for an answer. Next, you blog about it to relieve some more of your frustration. Finally, I was able to step in and help. I downloaded BartPE dropped the latest McAfee definitions into the plugin folder, generated the ISO and ran it over to him. After realizing he had to have his RAID controller drivers installed, he was able to boot the CD, run the McAfee scan on his hard drives and rid it of the virii.

There WILL be a formal review and maybe even a how-to for BartPE on GOTC in the next couple of weeks. I just wanted to go ahead and throw this nifty tool into the hands of my geek readers as well as commit it’s name/link to my archives. Hope it helps someone.

I made another purchase today. Definitely one I shouldn’t have, but its breaking my heart to see these new speakers just sitting idly in their box. I got todays eCost.com Hot Sheet, and on that email was a Kenwood VR-707. It supports 6.1 sound via the 600 watts of power, has 3 digital inputs, and its silver so it will match the rest of my stuff.

Only $139 with free shipping was a fantastic deal. I really couldn’t afford it, but I did finish my taxes last night and am expecting a good enough little refund to be Direct Deposited next week. The receiver should be here next week early, so I’m excited!

Among the whole domain/server transition and becoming engaged, I completely missed the one-year anniversary of my first blog post. It happened back on Feb 12, 2003, while I was still using b2, waiting for WordPress to come forth into existence. It’s been a good year.

Now to celebrate, here’s the plan. My code stinks. To be perfectly honest, I’m surprised to W3C doesn’t call Jim and tell him to stop hosting my site because my code is so messy. For those if you uninitiated in the ways of webmastering, the W3c (World Wide Web Consortium) has this standard that sites *should* comply with in order to ensure the best cross-platform web experience. A good analogy would be what a health department does for restaurants. Well, the “health inspector” in this case is The Validator which takes your page’s code, digs in, and then spits out any errors. I just ran my blog template through and got 94 errors if that tells you anything. It’s really quite pathetic though considering that the default WordPress template is Very Valid XHTML and CSS. SO….. I’m setting a goal for myself to get all of my pages to validate within the next month or so. Maybe if that goes well and I still have plenty of free time, I’ll get to work on the GOTC pages…. God knows they are in worse shape thanks to my wreaking of havoc on the layout a few months back. But hey, then again, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right?

l0nd0n had a link on his blog today for a the FedEx commercial “Doomed” where the men over dramatize the shipping problem they have. While checking it out, i found *my* personal favorite, the “I have an MBA…” ad. Check it out! (Quicktime or it’s alternative required.)
